Organised each year across the VINCI Group, Safety Week brings together employees, managers, operational teams and partners around a shared objective: strengthening a shared culture of prevention across all activities. The initiative also reflects VINCI’s “Safety First” mindset, encouraging every employee to remain vigilant, speak up in potentially unsafe situations and make safety part of everyday decision-making.

For VINCI Highways, safety is embedded in the day-to-day operation of highways, urban roads, bridges and mobility services. From traffic supervision and infrastructure maintenance to incident response and mobility management, our 4,500 employees work every day to help ensure smooth and reliable journeys for millions of users across 3,750 km network . Shared across all functions, locations and levels of responsibility, this culture of vigilance plays a central role in protecting employees, partners and the users of VINCI Highways infrastructure alike.

For a major international road concession company such as VINCI Highways, the challenge is to deploy VINCI’s zero-accident practices across very different countries, cultures and operating environments, while fully integrating local contexts. In this respect, VINCI Safety Week plays a key role in strengthening a shared corporate culture and reflecting the Group’s DNA, supporting our ability to roll out common safety standards worldwide.

Throughout the week, our teams engaged in emergency response simulations, roadside intervention demonstrations and immersive workshops reproducing real-life maintenance and incident management scenarios. Practical activities and collective discussions also focused on hazard identification, workplace wellbeing, field coordination and the everyday challenges associated with operating on live traffic across our network. Particular attention was given to reinforcing everyday safety reflexes, encouraging employees to look out for one another, ensure that procedures are consistently applied in the field and help prevent incidents.

More than an annual initiative, Safety Week reflects VINCI Highways’ long-term commitment to embedding safety into every aspect of its operations, with people remaining at the heart of safer and more sustainable mobility. With 75% of entities having achieved zero lost-time incidents in 2025, VINCI Highways continues to move forward toward its ambition of zero accidents. These figures are encouraging and reflect the continuous progress made by teams across the network. But when it comes to safety, there is no room for complacency: safety is above all about humility. The priority is to maintain this level of performance over time and to extend it with the same level of rigor and vigilance to the concessions recently integrated into VINCI Highways.

Safety is never “mission accomplished”: it requires the constant attention and commitment of everyone involved. The road is open, traffic moves, assistance arrives when needed. Yet behind this apparent simplicity lies one of the most demanding areas of mobility: keeping highways safe, operational and reliable at all times. This is why VINCI Highways created Open Tour : to reveal what usually remains behind the scenes.

Held simultaneously across all regions where VINCI Highways operates, Open Tour is one of the largest initiatives of its kind in the highway industry. In one unprecedented global movement, teams across the world opened traffic management centres, maintenance sites, patrol bases and operational facilities to visitors, transforming usually restricted environments into places of discovery and dialogue.

The second edition of Open Tour has just come to a close, confirming the success of an event designed to make highway operations more visible, more tangible and more inspiring for the next generation.

This year, Open Tour was placed under the sign of youth and road safety. Young people came in large numbers across the network, showing the strong interest that highway operations can spark among younger audiences when they are experienced from the inside. VINCI Highways chose to put road safety at the centre of this edition, as a defining commitment of its role as a highway operator. The ambition was to speak directly to future drivers and young road users, helping them understand risks through concrete experiences rather than abstract messages.

Across the network, teams organised visits, demonstrations and workshops showcasing the wide range of initiatives and operations deployed daily across VINCI Highways’ concessions to keep highways safe and running smoothly. The following examples provide a glimpse into the actions carried out across the different regions where we operate:

In Slovakia, nearly 300 children from the Nitra region joined firefighters, first aid teams and Via Pribina operational staff for a day focused on responsible behaviour on the road.

In the Czech Republic, the D4 Highway Operational Centre welcomed schools and local visitors for guided tours, accident simulators and emergency response demonstrations. In Ribeirão Preto, in the State of São Paulo, this connection between agriculture and mobility becomes especially visible every year with Agrishow, the largest agricultural technology fair in Latin America and one of the biggest in the world.

Served by the Prefeito Antônio Duarte Nogueira Highway, operated by VINCI Highways’ concessionaire Entrevias, the event is a major mobility challenge. Each year, we mobilise teams and resources to help ensure smooth access to Agrishow and support the success of the event.

A major showcase of farming innovation

Set across 520,000 square metres, Agrishow is a large-scale demonstration of the technological sophistication of modern agriculture. Designed to cover solutions for all types of crops and farm sizes, the fair brings together the full agribusiness value chain, from machinery, irrigation and storage to precision farming and new production technologies. It is also a major platform for product launches and the latest trends shaping the future of agriculture in Brazil and beyond.

From 27 April to 1 May 2026, the event will once again bring together nearly 200,000 visitors and more than 800 brands, buyers, public authorities and business delegations from key agricultural countries such as the United States, India and China.

One of the busiest weeks of the year for Entrevias

During Agrishow, traffic around Ribeirão Preto intensifies sharply, with volumes on the access route expected to rise by around 20%. To keep vehicles moving safely and efficiently, Entrevias deploys a reinforced operational plan combining real-time traffic guidance, congestion management, road signage, user assistance and rapid-response interventions, in coordination with the Highway Patrol.

Our teams also strengthen their presence on the ground, with additional patrol vehicles, tow trucks and ambulances positioned to respond to incidents and support drivers throughout the event. Temporary road closures and detours are implemented during peak periods to ease circulation and help absorb the exceptional flow of visitors and exhibitors converging on the fair.

This year, Entrevias teams will also be present at the fair through the “Life in Motion” programme, raising awareness of safer and more preventive driving practices.

Highways at the service of their territories

Agrishow illustrates a broader ambition for VINCI Highways in Brazil. With nearly 1,200 km of highways operated or under construction through Entrevias in São Paulo and Via Cristais in Minas Gerais and Goiás, VINCI Highways is present in regions that play a key role in the country’s agricultural production and logistics flows.

This footprint positions VINCI Highways as a long-term partner to Brazilian agribusiness, both in everyday mobility and at strategic moments such as Agrishow. By supporting safer, more reliable connections between territories, economic hubs and export routes, VINCI Highways contributes to the prosperity of the regions it serves.

In the northern hemisphere, several of our highways are exposed every year to severe winter conditions. This year, the winter season was particularly intense, especially in Europe, with repeated episodes of snow, ice and black ice. As winter comes to an end, our teams are already preparing for the next phase, with Easter travel and then summer journeys adding to the usual flow of freight traffic and daily commuting.

A first full winter season successfully managed on Via Salis

In the Czech Republic, Via Salis offers a strong illustration of that effort. The 2025–2026 season was the first full winter maintenance season on the D4 highway since it opened to service in December 2024. It was a demanding first test, with more frequent snow, ice and black ice than during the previous season. Via Salis Operations teams handled these episodes through close monitoring, fast intervention and strong field coordination, keeping the highway open and safe throughout the winter. From the Operations Control Centre in Lety, they coordinated patrols, winter services, roadside assistance and incident response to keep the highway fully available to drivers.

With winter now coming to a close, Via Salis has moved into its spring cleaning programme. Sweeping operations are under way along the D4 as the highway is prepared for the busier months ahead.

Preparing for Easter and summer traffic

The move into spring is first and foremost an operational one. Easter getaways and, soon after, summer holiday journeys increase traffic on top of the flows that are already there every day. Networks therefore need to absorb these peaks while continuing to serve freight transport and everyday mobility under the same conditions of safety and service.

Greece is a good example of that challenge. Our network serves destinations that are especially popular with Greek travellers during the long Orthodox Easter weekend. Olympia Odos, between Athens and now Pyrgos, and the Rio–Antirrio Bridge, put in place seasonal operational measures to absorb this peak period, with reinforced staff and equipment to support traffic conditions and assist drivers.

Another part of that transition is helping drivers return to the right habits after the winter months and stay fully alert during longer holiday journeys. Across our network, VINCI Highways teams prepare and share safe travel tips with customers: checking the vehicle before departure, allowing enough time for the trip, taking regular breaks and staying informed about traffic and weather conditions.

That approach also extends to dedicated summer breaks on service areas, where our teams invite drivers to pause in an environment focused on road safety awareness and responsible driving. These initiatives offer drivers a practical and appreciated opportunity to take a real break, reset their attention and continue their journey in better conditions. This summer, they will once again be organised in Slovakia and will be introduced for the first time in the Czech Republic.

From winter response to spring cleaning, peak traffic management, driver information and summer road safety initiatives, the new season begins well before the first holiday departures. Across the VINCI Highways network, our teams are already at work to make sure roads remain ready for every kind of journey.

Located on major roads in northern India, these projects come as the country moves forward with its ambition to expand free flow tolling and take the digitalisation of its road network to the next stage.

The new contracts cover tolling sites at Daulatpura, on the Delhi–Jaipur route, and Badarpur, on the Delhi–Faridabad route, two major highways serving one of the country’s busiest and most dynamic regions. At both locations, ViaPlus will provide and operate the back-office systems, integrate the roadside equipment required for free flow tolling, and carry out image review for licence-plate-based transactions.

These projects come as India enters a new phase in the digital transformation of tolling. Electronic toll payment is already widely adopted across the country, and India is now moving toward free flow tolling as the next stage in the evolution of its highway network. The aim is to make road travel more seamless and more efficient at national scale, in a country where road mobility plays a central role in trade and daily life.

The two contracts build on a significant ViaPlus presence in India. In 2025, ViaPlus processed over 2.7 billion electronic toll transactions in the country, representing around 40% of the national total. That footprint makes ViaPlus a major player in the market and gives VINCI Highways a strong platform from which to support the next phase of India’s tolling transformation.

Those new contracts mark a further step for VINCI Highways as a long-term partner in the transformation of road mobility in India.

Click here to get more details from ViaPlus' press release.

AI-powered cameras detect risky driving behaviour in real time, helping teams deploy faster and more targeted prevention actions alongside highway police.

Operating two key highway corridors in the State of São Paulo, Entrevias has built a strong track record of operational innovation. Operationnally integrated into our VINCI Highways network since the end of 2025, the concession serves major agricultural and logistics areas around Ribeirão Preto and Marília. It is on these high-traffic routes that Entrevias is now pioneering a new use of artificial intelligence to support safer driving.

The system relies on AI-enabled cameras capable of identifying dangerous behaviour such as mobile phone use at the wheel and failure to wear a seatbelt. Detected in real time, these situations can then trigger targeted prevention and enforcement measures in coordination with the highway police. By making it possible to intervene more quickly and more precisely, the solution strengthens the effectiveness of road safety actions while supporting a more proactive approach to prevention.

More than a technology upgrade, this initiative reflects VINCI Highways’ ambition to use AI where it can deliver immediate, concrete value for road users and operators alike. On Entrevias, artificial intelligence is becoming a practical tool to address everyday safety risks and encourage more responsible driving behaviour.

This is not the only example in Brazil. On Via Cristais, our teams have also deployed AI to improve safety in patrol service vehicles. The system is designed to detect signs of driver fatigue and alert both the patrol operator and our control centre when reduced vigilance is identified. This adds a further layer to VINCI Highways’ workplace safety strategy by helping protect employees operating on the network.

With these deployments in Brazil, VINCI Highways continues to roll out the potential of artificial intelligence across all its geographies. AI-based initiatives are already being used to optimise tolling technologies in India and the United States, improve the performance of lighting and road systems in Greece, and support automatic incident detection in Slovakia and Peru.

In Lisbon, this unique experience takes place on the 25 de Abril Bridge, operated by VINCI Highways and its partner Mota-Engil under the Lusoponte concession.

Each year, the Lisbon Half Marathon transforms the 25 de Abril Bridge into a course of achievement and celebration, bringing together thousands of runners in one of the city’s most iconic settings. More than 30,000 participants gathered this year to cross the Tagus, taking part in both the half marathon and the 10 km race, in a morning filled with energy, enthusiasm and a strong sense of community. For a few hours, the bridge changed rhythm. The usual flow of vehicles gave way to the sound of footsteps and the collective emotion of runners experiencing one of Lisbon’s most remarkable routes.

This edition held particular significance as it marked the 60th anniversary of the 25 de Abril Bridge. To celebrate this milestone, Lusoponte displayed a banner across the deck with a simple yet powerful message: “Lusoponte bringing shores together”. This message embodies the core mission of the infrastructure: ensuring mobility between the two banks of the Tagus while also reflecting Lusoponte’s commitment to foster economic and social connections across Lisbon.

This landmark event in Lisbon perfectly illustrates VINCI Highways’ commitment to mobilizing its most iconic infrastructure in support of meaningful collective experiences and public life, from hosting the Olympic flame relay on the Rio–Antirrio Bridge in Greece to welcoming the Terry Fox charity marathon on the Confederation Bridge in Canada.

To operate and upgrade this road, we created Via Cristais, the company in charge of the concession. At the time, the situation was critical as the road had been left unmaintained for several months. Twelve months later, the corridor has been brought back to operational and safety standards.

From day one, the priority was to build the organisation needed to operate the road efficiently and sustainably. Via Cristais recruited, trained and mobilised more than 400 people locally, set up our VINCI Highways operating procedures and deployed digital tools to monitor traffic and coordinate interventions in real time.

With this structure in place, we were able to act quickly across the entire corridor. We redeployed teams along the route, reinstated 24/7 roadside assistance and re-established continuous traffic monitoring.

Through an immediate investment plan, Via Cristais repaired large sections of pavement, upgraded equipment and signage, and cleared vegetation. All works were carried out under live traffic, ensuring that this essential route remained open at all times.

Twelve months later, accident levels have fallen by 24%, and drivers now benefit from safer road conditions, faster response times and a service they can rely on again.

Beyond restoring operational performance and road safety, Via Cristais also deployed an ambitious environmental plan. We carried out a large-scale clean-up operation, removing several thousand tonnes of waste that had accumulated along the corridor. This waste was processed through local recycling channels to avoid landfill wherever possible. We also reviewed our electricity contracts to move towards 100% clean energy supply for our facilities, and adapted our maintenance practices to reduce resource consumption.

Via Cristais is now ready to move into the next phase, with a focus on further improving performance while rolling out a broader programme of modernisation and upgrades across the corridor.

With Via Cristais and Entrevias, Brazil now represents VINCI Highways' largest network, with close to 1,200 kilometres in operation. In a continental-scale country where mobility needs are high and the concession model is well established, this footprint reflects our ability to operate and improve critical infrastructure at scale.

The project is being developed with Butterfly Pavilion, a Denver-based nonprofit working on invertebrate research and conservation. Together, we are creating a corridor that will bring back flowers, plants and, over time, more pollinators along the roadside.

What is being done on the ground

The work focuses on planting species that are already part of the local ecosystem and useful to pollinators. This will make the section of roadside more supportive for them and help connect nearby natural areas. Surveys are underway this spring to assess the site and define the planting strategy. Seeding is planned for the fall, with the first results expected from next year. Teams are also being prepared to manage and maintain the corridor over time, so that it can develop properly in the coming seasons.

The Butterfly Pavilion is closely involved in the project. Their teams contribute their knowledge of pollinators and will monitor how the corridor evolves once it is in place. This collaboration makes it possible to anchor the project in the local context and to build on existing expertise.

The initiative has already attracted local media attention and has even been featured in a TV report on Denver 7.

A program taking root beyond borders

This project on Northwest Parkway is part of our global Wild Meadows programme, which focuses on restoring biodiversity along our road networks. First implemented in Slovakia on Via Pribina and further developed in the Czech Republic on Via Salis, the programme is now expanding to the United States. It is also being deployed on Ohio River Bridges, adapting the same approach to different local ecosystems.

Since its opening, more than 5 million vehicles have used the route, benefiting from shorter travel times, improved driving comfort and uninterrupted service, with almost 99% availability and no unplanned closures.

Strong operational performance and service quality

The highway has reduced travel times by at least 20 minutes between Prague and Písek, while easing congestion on previously overloaded local roads crossing several municipalities.

Operational performance has been a key factor in this success. From the Operations Control Centre in Lety, our Via Salis Operations teams monitor traffic in real time and coordinate all interventions, including roadside assistance, incident management, maintenance works and winter services. After twelve months of operation, the road has remained fully available to drivers, meeting its objective of safety, reliability and continuity of service.

Service quality has also been recognised beyond operational metrics. A modern service area, developed in partnership with Shell, was awarded ‘Service Station of the Year’, thanks to its wide range of amenities, including diverse catering options, multiple fuel types and a children’s playground.

Public authorities highlight tangible results on the ground

“Thanks to the D4, traffic in our town has significantly eased over the past year, which is appreciated by all residents, especially families with children.” said Vladimír Vojáček, Mayor of Milín.

Petra Pecková, Governor of the Central Bohemian Region, also underlined that “The construction of the D4 highway has become an example of effective and cooperative communication with municipalities.”

A PPP model delivering over the long term

Delivered one month ahead of schedule by VINCI Construction CZ and awarded Construction Project of the Year, the D4 Via Salis highway is the first PPP highway project in the Czech Republic. Its first year of operation demonstrates the long-term relevance of the PPP model, from delivery to operation.

“This positive first year of operation demonstrates the strength of the PPP model not only to deliver major infrastructure projects, but also to operate them efficiently over the long term, in the interest of drivers and local communities.” declared Senka Jelenković, CEO of Via Salis.

Strategically located in Fusagasugá, halfway along one of Colombia's busiest roads, the new center marks a new stage in the modernization of operations, improving safety, traffic flow, and information for drivers.

The corridor's technological infrastructure has been completely modernized and now includes more than 150 km of optical fiber and an enhanced network of video surveillance cameras, emergency call boxes, and variable message signs displaying real-time information. Four new weather stations complete the system, enabling critical traffic conditions to be anticipated and reported.

From this center, teams manage all monitoring operations in real time and coordinate field interventions: roadside assistance, breakdown services, rescue, inspections, and maintenance. Each year, the concession manages nearly 35,000 assistance operations, or approximately 100 interventions per day, benefiting more than 17 million drivers who use the Bogotá-Girardot corridor.

The commissioning of this control center comes a few months after the completion of extension and modernization works carried out with VINCI Construction, marking Via Sumapaz's entry into full operation. Concrete environmental measures accompany the opening of the new operational center, including the gradual electrification of the fleet, the installation of LED lighting, and solar energy production.
