East End Crossing has connected Kentucky and Indiana across the Ohio River since 2016. One of the first large-scale bi-state road PPPs in the United States, its10th anniversary celebrates a decade of partnership and a project that continues to evolve.

On August 20, VINCI Highways joined its partner BBGI, representatives of the State of Indiana and local authorities to celebrate the project’s 10th anniversary in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Speakers included Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore; Marc Hildenbrand, Executive Director of River Ridge Development Authority; Alfonso Barona, Director of VINCI Highways North America; Barnardo Morgensztern, Director of BBGI; and Endaf Griffiths, General Manager of East End Crossing Partners. Together, they highlighted the concrete benefits East End Crossing has delivered to the region over the past decade, as well as the improvements and innovations that continue to prepare the infrastructure for future mobility needs.

A pioneering US public-private partnership

East End Crossing broke new ground as one of the first large-scale bi-state road public-private partnerships in the United States. Developed with the Indiana Finance Authority, the project brought together international and local expertise. VINCI Construction Grands Projets worked alongside leading US contractors to deliver the 12-km corridor, including the 762-meter cable-stayed Lewis and Clark Bridge, named after the two American explorers.

The infrastructure opened ahead of schedule in 2016 and achieved Envision Platinum certification for its sustainability standards.

Since opening, VINCI Highways and BBGI have operated the infrastructure through East End Crossing Partners, working with the State of Indiana and the Indiana Finance Authority under a long-term commitment extending to 2051.

Ten years of connectivity and regional growth

In ten years of service, East End Crossing has become an essential connection for the region. Today, up to one million vehicles use the bridge every month, supporting daily mobility and freight movements between Kentucky and Indiana.

Its impact can also be seen in the economic development around the crossing. River Ridge Commerce Center, a major business and logistics hub nearby, has seen its total economic output more than double since 2016, reaching $3.6 billion in 2025.

Continuously improving the infrastructure

For VINCI Highways and its partners, long-term operations means continuously improving the infrastructure and preparing it for new mobility needs. East End Crossing Partners recently upgraded pavement markings across the corridor to support autonomous vehicle navigation. The new markings improve visibility for camera-based vehicle systems while also providing better guidance for drivers in low-light or adverse weather conditions.

Solar panels have also been installed to produce renewable electricity. VINCI Highways has brought its Wild Meadows program to East End Crossing, working with local botanists and ecologists to create habitats for native plants and pollinators.

The program also illustrates how VINCI Highways’ international network benefits individual projects. First developed on our highways in Central Europe, Wild Meadows was adapted to the local environment in Indiana. Experience gained at East End Crossing is now supporting its introduction at Northwest Parkway in Colorado.

Today, VINCI Highways is active in six US states, with East End Crossing between Indiana and Kentucky, Northwest Parkway in Colorado, and tolling services provided by ViaPlus in California, Texas and Georgia.

Building on this track record, VINCI Highways continues to develop its presence in the country as a long-term partner to US road mobility.

One of Lisbon’s most iconic landmarks is celebrating its 60th anniversary. Since opening in August 1966, the 25 de Abril Bridge has transformed mobility across the Tagus River, connecting Lisbon with Almada and the communities of the south bank and supporting the economic development of the wider metropolitan area. Today, the bridge remains one of the essential transport links of the Portuguese capital, with more than 300,000 people crossing it every day. Stretching 2.3 km across the Tagus, it carries both road and rail traffic and connects directly with Lisbon’s major road network to the north and the A2 highway towards the south of Portugal.

For VINCI Highways, the 25 de Abril Bridge is part of a long-standing partnership in Portugal. Through Lusoponte, VINCI Highways and its partner Mota-Engil operate the two major road crossings of the Tagus in Lisbon: the 25 de Abril Bridge and the Vasco da Gama Bridge.

This model has played an important role in the development of Lisbon’s mobility infrastructure. In 1994, the Lusoponte concession combined the operation of the existing 25 de Abril Bridge with the financing, construction and operation of a second crossing of the Tagus. The Vasco da Gama Bridge opened four years later, helping relieve congestion on the 25 de Abril Bridge while supporting the development of Lisbon’s south bank.

Together, the two bridges have become complementary gateways for the Lisbon metropolitan area, connecting people, businesses and territories on both sides of the Tagus.

Sixty years after its inauguration, the 25 de Abril Bridge continues to fulfil the same essential purpose: keeping Lisbon and its surrounding communities connected. Its anniversary was celebrated in August with a spectacular show of around 500 drones above the Tagus, illuminating one of Portugal’s most recognizable landmarks.

As tolling systems become increasingly digital, customer service is playing a growing role in the driver experience. Every day, millions of drivers interact with tolling operators to pay a toll, recharge an account, update vehicle information, understand an invoice or resolve a billing issue. Handling these requests quickly and efficiently is becoming essential for operators as electronic and free-flow tolling continue to expand.

To address this challenge, ViaPlus, VINCI Highways' tolling technology and customer services subsidiary, is enhancing its customer service operations with new artificial intelligence capabilities designed to improve the customer experience while helping tolling agencies manage growing volumes of enquiries more efficiently.

Customers calling a tolling customer service centre can now interact directly with an AI-powered voice assistant that understands natural language, answers routine enquiries, performs a range of account-related tasks and, whenever needed, seamlessly transfers the call to a human representative.

Combining conversational and agentic AI, the solution enables customers to speak naturally, without navigating complex menus or using specific commands. The AI understands requests expressed in everyday language and responds accordingly, delivering faster resolutions while remaining available around the clock.

Unlike traditional voicebots or chatbots that simply answer questions, the solution leverages agentic AI to securely execute predefined actions on a customer's behalf. This includes providing account information, processing payments, resolving unpaid tolls, and supporting account management activities. By automating routine transactions, customers receive immediate assistance without waiting for a live representative, while more complex or sensitive inquiries are seamlessly escalated to a customer service agent for personalized support.

Artificial intelligence also supports customer service representatives behind the scenes. During interactions, AI-powered tools can instantly retrieve relevant account information, suggest accurate responses and provide contextual assistance in real time, enabling agents to focus on situations that require investigation, judgement or personalised support. Once an interaction is complete, AI can automatically analyse the conversation, helping identify quality improvements, recurring customer issues and opportunities to further enhance service.

By automating routine interactions and predefined tasks, ViaPlus' solution enables tolling agencies to scale customer service operations, absorb growing demand and make more efficient use of resources without compromising service quality. For drivers, this translates into faster and more consistent support across every interaction.

As more highways adopt electronic and barrier-free tolling, customer service is becoming a strategic component of mobility services. Combining the speed, scalability and availability of artificial intelligence with the expertise and judgement of human teams, ViaPlus is helping tolling operators deliver smarter customer support while improving the experience of the millions of drivers who use toll roads every day.

A major full resurfacing programme has been completed ahead of schedule, while remaining open to traffic throughout the works on the Via Pribina highway, in Slovakia. Spanning 52 kilometres, the highway is operated by VINCI Highways and its partners under a public-private partnership with the Slovak Ministry of Transport. The programme represents the largest upgrade carried out on the infrastructure since it opened in 2011, reflecting VINCI Highways' long-term commitment to preserving the performance, safety and reliability of its concessions.

After more than a decade of operation, Via Pribina’s resurfacing programme was launched to preserve the long-term performance of this strategic highway. The works included the resurfacing of nearly one million square metres of pavement, the renovation of interchange pavements, the replacement of more than 25 kilometres of expansion and construction joints, pavement preservation treatments across almost 8,000 square metres and the installation of new road markings. Together, these improvements enhance driving comfort, vehicle stability, drainage and braking performance while extending the lifespan of the infrastructure.

The resurfacing works were carried out by EUROVIA SK, a VINCI Construction subsidiary, highlighting the strength of VINCI's integrated model and the ability of its companies to combine construction and operational expertise to deliver complex infrastructure projects efficiently.

One of the programme's greatest achievements was its delivery ahead of schedule despite the scale and complexity of the works. Close coordination between the construction teams and the road operations, as well as increased construction capacity, including continuous day-and-night operations, made it possible to keep this strategic transport corridor open throughout the project while minimising disruption for drivers. Major sections of the highway were reopened earlier than initially planned without compromising quality or safety.

Sustainability was embedded throughout the programme. All asphalt removed during the works was recycled at local asphalt plants, reducing the use of resources and supporting a more circular approach to road maintenance. Beyond improving today's driving experience, the project illustrates how the public-private partnership model enables continuous investment and high operational standards throughout the life of a concession.

Reliable and easy to access information can change the way people experience their journey on the road. Across VINCI Highways, digital tools are playing a growing role in that effort, helping operational teams share updates with drivers in a more direct and responsive way. In Brazil, Via Cristais, operator of 594 kilometers of the BR-040 highway between Belo Horizonte, in Minas Gerais, and Cristalina, in Goiás, offers a clear example of this shift with the creation of a WhatsApp Channel. 

Just a few months after its launch, Via Cristais' WhatsApp channel already has more than 4,000 followers. Its growth reflects drivers' desire for practical, real-time information, delivered in a familiar format and without extra friction. This is particularly relevant on the BR-040 highway, where traffic patterns vary widely, as the same route serves urban mobility around Belo Horizonte, regional travel, long-distance journeys, and freight transport. 

Real-time information that makes a difference

Via Cristais' WhatsApp Channel was designed around the need to share fast and easy-to-understand information in a format adapted to mobile use. The channel shares live updates on traffic conditions, slowdowns, queues, affected municipalities, directions of travel, as well as kilometer markers. Safety tips, service information, operational news, practical guidance, and reminders such as emergency contact details are also shared. It has become a regular point of contact between Via Cristais and its customers. 

Working alongside navigation apps such as Waze and Google Maps, the WhatsApp Channel provides a complementary layer of information directly from the highway operator. While navigation apps help drivers plan their route and estimate travel time, Via Cristais brings operational information based on real-time knowledge of the road, giving users a clearer picture of what lies ahead and helping them adapt their journey accordingly.

Working smarter behind the scenes

Behind this simple user experience lies a highly automated process. The WhatsApp Channel is directly connected to Via Cristais' operational systems, allowing traffic events detected by the control centre to flow almost instantly into customer updates. Before publication, the customer experience team performs a light review and adjusts the message template when needed, ensuring information remains both accurate and easy to understand.

Beyond improving customer satisfaction, this automated approach has also significantly reduced the workload of customer service teams. Since Via Cristais opened its WhatsApp channel, enquiries through traditional channels such as phone calls and emails have fallen by 40%, enabling the teams to dedicate more time to complex requests and direct assistance.

The right channel for every market

The Via Cristais Whatsapp Channel highlights the importance of adapting digital services to local customer habits. In Brazil, where WhatsApp is the country's dominant communication platform, it has proved to be a particularly effective way of keeping drivers informed in real time.

The success of Via Cristais' initiative is now inspiring other VINCI Highways concessions. Across Latin America in particular, where WhatsApp is equally part of everyday life, teams are already exploring how to adapt and deploy similar services for their own customers. More broadly, the initiative demonstrates a simple principle: the most effective digital services are those built around the communication channels people already use every day.

Ahead of the peak summer travel season, Confederation Bridge has completed the full resurfacing of its 12.9-kilometre deck, marking the largest modernization programme undertaken on the bridge since it opened to traffic in 1997. Delivered in just eight weeks in synergy with VINCI Construction, the project illustrates VINCI Highways’ ability to combine long-term concession management with the Group’s construction expertise to maintain strategic infrastructure at the highest standards.

Connecting Prince Edward Island to mainland Canada across the Northumberland Strait, Confederation Bridge is one of Canada’s most important mobility links. As the only fixed link to the island, it supports daily mobility, freight transport, tourism flows and the economic continuity of the region. For VINCI Highways, long-term shareholder of Strait Crossing Bridge Limited alongside Strait Crossing Inc., this milestone reflects the value of a concession model focused on operational excellence, sustained investment and infrastructure performance over time.

A renewed surface designed for demanding maritime conditions

The resurfacing programme involved the installation of a high-performance asphalt solution specifically designed to withstand the bridge’s exposed maritime environment, including humidity, freeze-thaw cycles, temperature variations and exposure to de-icing salts. Beyond improving driving comfort for bridge users, the new surface will contribute to protecting the structural deck from water and salt infiltration, strengthening the bridge’s long-term durability and reducing the need for significant future repairs. The project demonstrates the strength of the synergies within the VINCI Group. Delivered with VINCI Construction, the programme brought together VINCI Highways' long-term asset management and operational expertise with VINCI Construction’s technical know-how in pavement solutions and complex works delivery.

Delivering complex works while keeping the bridge open

Throughout the programme, Confederation Bridge remained open to traffic, preserving the vital connection between Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.

To maintain traffic while ensuring safe working conditions, the works were carried out in carefully phased sections through a moving work zone, with vehicles circulating in alternating lanes, day and night. This required continuous coordination between construction teams, bridge operations personnel, traffic management teams and emergency services.

Completing the works ahead of the summer season demonstrates the teams’ ability to deliver complex infrastructure maintenance under live traffic conditions, while minimizing disruption for residents, businesses, visitors and freight carriers.

A concession model supporting long-term value

Confederation Bridge is operated under a long-term concession framework administered by the Government of Canada. This model provides the structure required to operate, maintain and modernize the bridge over time, while enabling sustained private investment in safety, service quality and infrastructure resilience. The successful completion of the resurfacing programme is a concrete example of how long-term concession management can create value for users and territories: by preserving a strategic national asset, maintaining service continuity and supporting regional mobility and economic development.

VINCI Highways has reached a new milestone in India with the opening of ViaPlus ’ first free-flow toll plaza in the country. The Daulatpura toll plaza on the Delhi–Jaipur Expressway is among the first to enter free-flow operation as India accelerates its transition towards multi-lane barrier-free tolling.

Located on one of India’s most strategic road corridors, the Daulatpura toll plaza serves the Delhi–Jaipur Expressway, a key route connecting the Delhi region with the state of Rajasthan. For a busy six-lane corridor supporting both daily mobility and long-distance traffic, the shift to free-flow tolling marks a concrete improvement in the travel experience for road users.

Fast-track delivery

Delivered with Airtel Payments Bank for Indian Highways Management Company Limited , a joint venture led by NHAI , the Daulatpura deployment supports India’s ambitious national programme to accelerate the transition towards multi-lane free-flow tolling.

ViaPlus brought the toll plaza into free-flow operation in just five months, leading the end-to-end delivery of the system across design, roadside equipment integration, back-office systems and image review capabilities. 

This rapid delivery reflects ViaPlus’ strong technical capabilities and close coordination with its partner  Airtel Payment Bank . ViaPlus already processes around 40% of India’s electronic toll collection transactions, giving it a solid operational understanding of one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing tolling markets.

AI-powered tolling for high-volume traffic conditions

For its transition to barrier-free tolling, India has chosen a multi-lane free-flow model, or MLFF. Unlike other free-flow systems that operate on a single dedicated lane in some countries, MLFF enables vehicles to move across several lanes, while the system identifies them, verifies the transaction and processes the toll automatically.

In India, MLFF combines FASTag, the country’s electronic toll collection system based on RFID tags fixed to vehicle windscreens, with Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras and centralized back-office processing. As a vehicle passes through the tolling point, the system identifies the vehicle, verifies the transaction and processes the toll automatically.

At Daulatpura, AI-based image review technology strengthens this process by supporting license plate recognition and transaction verification, especially when additional checks are required. With vehicle classification and detection performed entirely using overhead sensors, the result is a smooth and automated system that enables reliable free-flow tolling operations in high-volume traffic conditions.

Supporting India’s national move to smarter highways

India is rapidly moving towards a smarter and more technology-driven national highway tolling ecosystem. The MLFF model is part of a broader transition aimed at making journeys faster, more seamless and more efficient across the national network. The momentum is accelerating, with India now preparing larger-scale deployments covering multiple toll plazas across key highway corridors. 

In this context, the opening of Daulatpura is both an operational and technological milestone for ViaPlus and a proof point for its ability to support large-scale digital transformation in road mobility.

Reducing emissions from highway operations is a key pillar of VINCI Highways' decarbonization strategy across its network. Just one year after the start of operations in the Czech Republic, Via Salis is turning this ambition into action by transitioning half of its operational fleet to sustainable biofuels.

Operating the 48-kilometre D4 highway southwest of Prague for just over a year, VINCI Highways' subsidiary Via Salis Operations has just transitioned 12 of its 25 vehicles to sustainable biofuel. The transition will continue over the coming months, with all maintenance vehicles set to run on biofuel by the end of 2026.

The transition extends across a broad range of vehicles used daily to operate and maintain the highway, from inspection vans to spreader trucks, remote-controlled mowers and loaders. Once fully deployed, the programme is expected to reduce emissions associated with D4 maintenance activities by around 75%.

A sustainable biofuel tailored to performant highway operations

Via Salis Operations selected Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), a sustainable biofuel produced entirely from used vegetable oils and other residual fats. By relying exclusively on recycled feedstocks rather than agricultural crops grown specifically for fuel production, HVO offers a lower-carbon alternative to conventional diesel while supporting a more circular use of resources.

The solution was also selected for its ease of deployment and strong operational performance. Key operational benefits include:

• No vehicle or equipment modifications required;
• Conditions that help extend engine life;
• Reduced fuel consumption;
• Reliable performance under Czech winter conditions, including temperatures as low as –22°C;
• European production, contributing to a stable and reliable supply chain.

One in four VINCI Highways vehicles worldwide already runs on low-carbon energy

The transition underway at Via Salis reflects a broader transformation taking place across the VINCI Highways network. Today, 25 % of the fleet operated by VINCI Highways to operate its roads accross 13 countries already runs on a low-carbon energy source, either electricity or biofuels.

This progress is being driven by a pragmatic approach adapted to local realities. Rather than relying on a single technology, VINCI Highways deploys the solutions best suited to local operational needs, energy ecosystems and available technologies:

• In Colombia, Via Sumapaz recently added its first electric tow truck to support emergency response and roadside assistance operations, bringing the concession close to 20 electric vehicles in service.
• In Brazil, in a country where biofuels are widely available, most of the fleets operated by Entrevias and Via Cristais run on ethanol.

Together, these initiatives show how a combination of sustainable biofuels and electrification is helping decarbonize highway operations at large scale across a diverse international network.

Thanks to this locally grounded approach to environmental engagement, VINCI Highways has already reduced its direct emissions by 40% since 2018 .

Highway operations are part of everyday life. The road is open, traffic moves, assistance arrives when needed. Yet behind this apparent simplicity lies one of the most demanding areas of mobility: keeping highways safe, operational and reliable at all times. This is why VINCI Highways created Open Tour : to reveal what usually remains behind the scenes.

Held simultaneously across all regions where VINCI Highways operates, Open Tour is one of the largest initiatives of its kind in the highway industry. In one unprecedented global movement, teams across the world opened traffic management centres, maintenance sites, patrol bases and operational facilities to visitors, transforming usually restricted environments into places of discovery and dialogue.

The second edition of Open Tour has just come to a close, confirming the success of an event designed to make highway operations more visible, more tangible and more inspiring for the next generation.

This year, Open Tour was placed under the sign of youth and road safety. Young people came in large numbers across the network, showing the strong interest that highway operations can spark among younger audiences when they are experienced from the inside. VINCI Highways chose to put road safety at the centre of this edition, as a defining commitment of its role as a highway operator. The ambition was to speak directly to future drivers and young road users, helping them understand risks through concrete experiences rather than abstract messages.

Across the network, teams organised visits, demonstrations and workshops showcasing the wide range of initiatives and operations deployed daily across VINCI Highways’ concessions to keep highways safe and running smoothly. In Slovakia, nearly 300 children from the Nitra region joined firefighters, first aid teams and Via Pribina operational staff for a day focused on responsible behaviour on the road.

In the Czech Republic, the D4 Highway Operational Centre welcomed schools and local visitors for guided tours, accident simulators and emergency response demonstrations. Students’ artworks were also exhibited, bringing a creative dimension to road safety awareness.

In Greece, Open Tour highlighted two major highway infrastructures. At the iconic Rion-Antirion Bridge, students from the School of Mechanical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens discovered one of the country’s landmark structures and had the rare opportunity to visit the inside of its pylons. Olympia Odos welcomed high school students specialising in electronics and electrical systems. They explored the hidden side of highway operations, from the Traffic Management Centre to an emergency tunnel in the Kakia Skala area. The visit also introduced them to Olympia Odos’ innovations, including distance-based tolling through Olympia Pass and Smart Tunnel technologies, as well as sustainability initiatives such as solar energy production and waste management.

In Germany, where VINCI Highways builds and operates five highways, Via Niedersachsen opened the doors of the A7 highway under bright sunshine, giving visitors a behind-the-scenes look at how the route prepares for the busy summer travel season.

In India, ViaPlus opened the doors of its Hyderabad and Bangalore offices to more than 90 employees’ children, 55 spouses and over 25 students, faculty members and delegates from the Indo-French Innovation Network for two days of immersive activities focused on mobility and innovation. Through technology demonstrations, orientation sessions and themed workshops, participants discovered the company’s expertise in mobility solutions, R&D and future transportation technologies, while strengthening connections between teams, families and the workplace.

In Brazil, students visiting Entrevias and Via Cristais discovered the Operational Control Centres, explored operational vehicles and took part in activities focused on road safety, rescue simulation and recycling. 

In Colombia, Via Sumapaz showed the scale of institutional mobilisation around Open Tour. Major public authorities and partners joined the event, including representatives of ANI, the concession grantor, the national road authority, the National Road Safety Association, financial partners and numerous media outlets. Their participation gave this edition a strong public dimension and confirmed Open Tour’s role as a platform for shared commitment to safer roads.

In Peru, Lima Expresa welcomed engineering students who discovered the Operations Control Centre, the Gran Túnel Lima Expresa and the photovoltaic-equipped operational base, while discussing the challenges of building a more connected, efficient and sustainable mobility in Lima.

In the United States, ViaPlus USA welcomed local STEM students for an open house focused on mobility technologies and career opportunities in transportation, while Northwest Parkway , whose Open Tour was postponed by one week due to snowfall, highlighted the people behind daily operations through staff portraits and testimonials.

With Open Tour 2026, VINCI Highways has turned a global open day into a powerful moment of transmission. By revealing the reality of highway operations to the next generation, the event gives the public a direct view of the complexity of highway operations, the expertise of the teams, the precision required in every gesture and the growing role of AI and other technologies in the road sector.

In Brazil, when nearly 200,000 visitors converge on Agrishow in Ribeirao Preto, our Entrevias team shifts into high gear to keep one of global agriculture’s flagship events moving safely and smoothly.

As one of the world’s leading agricultural producers, Brazil relies on its highway network to connect farms and export routes. In Ribeirão Preto, in the State of São Paulo, this connection between agriculture and mobility becomes especially visible every year with Agrishow, the largest agricultural technology fair in Latin America and one of the biggest in the world.

Served by the Prefeito Antônio Duarte Nogueira Highway, operated by VINCI Highways’ concessionaire Entrevias, the event is a major mobility challenge. Each year, we mobilise teams and resources to help ensure smooth access to Agrishow and support the success of the event.

A major showcase of farming innovation 

Set across 520,000 square metres, Agrishow is a large-scale demonstration of the technological sophistication of modern agriculture. Designed to cover solutions for all types of crops and farm sizes, the fair brings together the full agribusiness value chain, from machinery, irrigation and storage to precision farming and new production technologies. It is also a major platform for product launches and the latest trends shaping the future of agriculture in Brazil and beyond.

From 27 April to 1 May 2026, the event will once again bring together nearly 200,000 visitors and more than 800 brands, buyers, public authorities and business delegations from key agricultural countries such as the United States, India and China.

One of the busiest weeks of the year for Entrevias

During Agrishow, traffic around Ribeirão Preto intensifies sharply, with volumes on the access route expected to rise by around 20%. To keep vehicles moving safely and efficiently, Entrevias deploys a reinforced operational plan combining real-time traffic guidance, congestion management, road signage, user assistance and rapid-response interventions, in coordination with the Highway Patrol.

Our teams also strengthen their presence on the ground, with additional patrol vehicles, tow trucks and ambulances positioned to respond to incidents and support drivers throughout the event. Temporary road closures and detours are implemented during peak periods to ease circulation and help absorb the exceptional flow of visitors and exhibitors converging on the fair.

This year, Entrevias teams will also be present at the fair through the “Life in Motion” programme, raising awareness of safer and more preventive driving practices.

Highways at the service of their territories

Agrishow illustrates a broader ambition for VINCI Highways in Brazil. With nearly 1,200 km of highways operated or under construction through Entrevias in São Paulo and Via Cristais in Minas Gerais and Goiás, VINCI Highways is present in regions that play a key role in the country’s agricultural production and logistics flows.

This footprint positions VINCI Highways as a long-term partner to Brazilian agribusiness, both in everyday mobility and at strategic moments such as Agrishow. VINCI Highways operates a diverse road network from North America to Europe . In the northern hemisphere, several of our highways are exposed every year to severe winter conditions. This year, the winter season was particularly intense, especially in Europe, with repeated episodes of snow, ice and black ice. As winter comes to an end, our teams are already preparing for the next phase, with Easter travel and then summer journeys adding to the usual flow of freight traffic and daily commuting.

A first full winter season successfully managed on Via Salis

In the Czech Republic, Via Salis offers a strong illustration of that effort. The 2025–2026 season was the first full winter maintenance season on the D4 highway since it opened to service in December 2024. It was a demanding first test, with more frequent snow, ice and black ice than during the previous season. Via Salis Operations teams handled these episodes through close monitoring, fast intervention and strong field coordination, keeping the highway open and safe throughout the winter. From the Operations Control Centre in Lety, they coordinated patrols, winter services, roadside assistance and incident response to keep the highway fully available to drivers.

With winter now coming to a close, Via Salis has moved into its spring cleaning programme. Sweeping operations are under way along the D4 as the highway is prepared for the busier months ahead.

Preparing for Easter and summer traffic

The move into spring is first and foremost an operational one. Easter getaways and, soon after, summer holiday journeys increase traffic on top of the flows that are already there every day. Networks therefore need to absorb these peaks while continuing to serve freight transport and everyday mobility under the same conditions of safety and service.

Greece is a good example of that challenge. Our network serves destinations that are especially popular with Greek travellers during the long Orthodox Easter weekend. Olympia Odos, between Athens and now Pyrgos, and the Rio–Antirrio Bridge, put in place seasonal operational measures to absorb this peak period, with reinforced staff and equipment to support traffic conditions and assist drivers.

Another part of that transition is helping drivers return to the right habits after the winter months and stay fully alert during longer holiday journeys. Across our network, VINCI Highways teams prepare and share safe travel tips with customers: checking the vehicle before departure, allowing enough time for the trip, taking regular breaks and staying informed about traffic and weather conditions.

That approach also extends to dedicated summer breaks on service areas, where our teams invite drivers to pause in an environment focused on road safety awareness and responsible driving. These initiatives offer drivers a practical and appreciated opportunity to take a real break, reset their attention and continue their journey in better conditions. This summer, they will once again be organised in Slovakia and will be introduced for the first time in the Czech Republic.

From winter response to spring cleaning, peak traffic management, driver information and summer road safety initiatives, the new season begins well before the first holiday departures. Across the VINCI Highways network, our teams are already at work to make sure roads remain ready for every kind of journey.
